I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every HMIS customer for your continued support and confidence in HMIS as we advance our software technology into the future and introduce our new Web based products - HMIS Advantage and HMIS Web-Link. We highly value our current customers so please allow me to describe our Web products and the conversion strategy that HMIS will provide to our existing Windows customers.
HMIS Web-Link is our Web product designed to meet the specialized high-volume and high performance needs of Service Corporation International (SCI). Our Web-Link version is maintained and supported by an off-shore Indian based company, Infosys Technologies. HMIS provides consulting services to SCI on an as-needed basis to assist them with enhancement reviews and designs. HMIS has an agreement with SCI where we can ‘share’ enhancements that may be valuable to all of our other customers and incorporate enhancements that make sense into our HMIS Advantage product.
HMIS Advantage is our Web product designed to meet the specialized needs of our existing Windows and Web based HMIS customers. HMIS Advantage is maintained and supported by HMIS here in our Nashua, NH office. HMIS Advantage has all of the ‘high-performance’ features of our Web-Link product, but has been simplified and enhanced to meet the needs of our existing customers. Our goal is to help you save time, eliminate paperwork and end user errors while maintaining the power of our back office accounting system. To that end, we are working to enhance the end user interface as well as to add ease-of-use features within various HMIS Advantage modules. For our Funeral Home users, we will be introducing ‘HMIS Café’ - a completely re-designed front-end user interface targeted for use by funeral directors with limited computer experience.
Although HMIS is introducing our new Web product, HMIS Advantage, we are committed to supporting our Window’s clients by allowing time for a smooth transition to the Web product when it makes the most sense for your business. To aid in the conversion of HMIS Windows clients we are working to complete a few additional remaining modules within HMIS Advantage. We will begin offering conversions from Windows to HMIS Advantage in the 1st quarter of 2008. One of the most significant advantages that we will offer our Windows customers is the option to have HMIS host your HMIS Advantage software utilizing our Application Service Provider (ASP). Basically, what this means is that HMIS will take care of your hardware, backups, and software upgrades automatically – all you will need is a ‘connection’ to the internet from any computer that uses Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. Our ASP service for HMIS Advantage has been in operation with our new HMIS Web clients for more than three years and has proven to be successful.
In summary, HMIS is committed to providing our Windows customers with a smooth and customer driven transition to our Web product, HMIS Advantage. We are also committed to providing new and simplified ‘front-end’ user interfaces that will provide the combination of ‘Easy to Use’ with the powerful back-office accounting that has made HMIS the best software available to the industry.

Prior to joining our team, Stan worked for Nashua Eye Associates, a large ophthalmology practice, as the Accounting Manager and technical support liaison with their medical application and accounting vendors performing software updates and working to solve application issues.

Communication With HMIS
HMIS would like to introduce our new clients to eResolve as well as remind our existing clients of its availability. eResolve is our Customer Support/Project Management issue reporting tool. It is a web-based tool designed and implemented to enable you to manage issues/HMIS projects and allows HMIS to provide timely, quality responses to you, our customer. Use of this system requires you to have a web browser and an email address only.
HMIS has utilized eResolve successfully for the past 7 years and is very pleased with the results. You can report your issues via eResolve web access and not incur a long distance phone charge. This tool provides you flexibility to log on and review current open issues within your company as well as add new activities (comments/updates) to any/all of your company issues reported. eResolve allows us the opportunity to send and receive timely responses/updates as we exchange information. It also handles attachments for viewing.

How To: Use Mail Merge to Create Letters
I: Preparatory Information
1. Create a Mail Merge folder for letters and .txt files on the local hard drive.
2. Create Word documents that would be used for different purposes and place them in the directory created in step 1.
Example: Thank you letters, delinquency letters, envelopes, labels, etc.
3. Attach a Datasource to each document.
Note: If the mail merge toolbar is not available on the Microsoft Word toolbar select View > Toolbars > Mail Merge.
a. Press the Open Datasource button and browse to the location of the .txt file (the .txt file is the actual datasource). Each datasource will be different, depending on where in the application you choose to create a mailmerge:
- Letters from Name Search or Name Maintenance will use NameSearchResults.txt.
- Letters from Lot Inquiry Search will use LotInquiryResults.txt.
- Letters from Contract Search will use ContractSearchResults.txt.
- Delinquency letters will use Del1.txt, Del2.txt and Del3.txt.
II: Creating a Mail Merge txt file and Merging with Letters
1. Refer to the eResolve Knowledge Base issue 47180 to download document entitled Mail Merge Steps.pdf for instructions on creating a mail merge.
Note: Instructions are module specific, since mail merge documents can be created from different areas within HMIS
